11/10/2010 Lesson 4 - Working with nylon

This lesson began with an exercise in improvisation, taking two stools and fixing them to each other in an interesting way, wrapping them in cling film to create a surface. The form of this stool structure would then become the foundation for the nylons and mutton cloths.

We then stretched our nylons between and around the legs of the stools bringing character to the structure; creating lively tensions in some places and lifeless drooping in others.

When adding the mutton cloth to the structure we secured it in place by tying it to itself or to the nearby areas of the nylon tights. The structure was now diverse in texture and had unique shapes throughout it, which we went onto to covering completely in diluted glue to set, ready for laying over a stand.
