18/10/11 - Lesson 5: Developing the set structure (Nylon & Mutton)

After our stool molded structure had set, we removed the nylon and mutton surface from the stools. Once applying the materials to a mannequin, we allowed the tensions and stiffnesses of the materials to naturally form much of structure around the stand. Here is the first arrangement we came up with.

After achieving the first rather stable arrangement, we went onto to testing the materials limits and manipulating the structure, slowly stripping it from the mannequin and flipping it upside down.

There is a certain flare and natural vibrancy that come with the out-stretching stiffened nylon that was maintained in the re-orientating of the materials. It is features like that which echo the tensions and drooping characteristics that were enforced by the original stool mold foundation.
