Pleating

The Pleating Session was by far my favorite of all the lessons for this module so far, 

i love the way you can fold the fabric between the paper/card and not know exactly what to expect once its been pressed. We had a guest lecturer today from F CIMENT (pleating)LTD and below are just a few examples of the amazing pleats...

 

After seeing these wonderful pleats i was inspired to try a few of my own, here they are below..

After making a few of the easier templates for pleats i decided to challenge myself and try one a little more difficult..

After doing the section above i scaled it down and added a few more rows to make pleats with more surface space.

 Half way through folding the pleats into place i came up with this, it reminds me of an old Victorian skirt.

 And then finally the finished pleats, i was really pleased with these.

Deconstructivism: Couture and Miyake, Fall 2008

Whilst searching for an image of a jacket formed from the deconstruction of converse shoes by Jean Charles de Castelbajac, I came across these two garments made by Chanel Couture (left picture) and Issey Miyake (picture right). Both designs display a unique take on the concept of deconstruction, implementing it in the garments final structure (with removable sleeves and detached pants) rather than in the garments creation.

De-constructed jacket

For this session we needed a jacket with lining.

we then used an unpicker to unpick the lining from the jacket, i found this a bit difficult at first but after some perseverance i got the hang of it.

Whilst i was unpicking the jacket

 Once the lining and jacket were separated, we used the jacket part and tried pinning it to a chair in different ways then transferred it to the mannequin.
